Brown County

The Brown County website lists specific guidelines as to what materials are or are not recyclable in your area; please consult this list (as well as any materials you may have received from your county or recycling servicer) as you collect your recyclables. But remember, you can always recycle MORE than just what's collected! Reusable goods can be given to thrift stores or churches, food waste can be composted, some materials can be sent directly to remanufacturers... For tips on recycling MORE than what's normally collected, check out our mega list of what can be recycled and how.

Recycling Guidelines

Drop boxes are for rural resident use only. City residents shall use curbside collection provided by your recycling/waste hauler.

PLASTIC
NEW! - Riverview Sanitation is recycling in the New Ulm areas and they now accept 3,4,5's of plastic. Other haulers still only accept plastic containers with necks marked with recycling symbol #1 or #2: milk jugs, pop and water bottles, soap containers, motor oil bottles, etcetera. Containers must be rinsed clean with caps removed, except motor oil bottles. DO NOT INCLUDE: plastic tubs or pails; plastic bags; toys; styrofoam.

GLASS
Clear, green, and brown food and beverage containers only. Must be clean with lids removed. DO NOT INCLUDE: light bulbs; mirrors; window glass; dishes; drinking glasses; coffee mugs; canning jars.

MIXED PAPER
Put all paper into a brown paper grocery bag: newspapers, junk mail, magazines, catalogs, phone books, and computer paper are accepted. DO NOT INCLUDE plastic bags; remove any plastic materials from the paper. Do not put paper out in the rain.

METAL
Empty aluminum cans, clean aluminum foil, thoroughly rinsed tin food cans and other household metal products such as brass, copper and steel are accepted. Do not place aerosol cans in recycling.

CORRUGATED CARDBOARD
All boxes must be empty and flattened. Place next to or under your red recycling bin. Do not put cardboard out in the rain.
