Allied Waste and RecycleBank form new partnership

Allied Waste and RecycleBank, have announced a strategic partnership to launch a nationwide recycling incentive program. In Minnesota, the launch of the RecycleBank program that will implemented in several Metro area communities was announced on November 20, 2008 at an event held at the Mall of America in Bloomington.

RecycleBank is a rewards program that provides incentives such as gift cards, gift certificates and discounts to more than 400 brand name national and local retailers across the country to motivate people to recycle. The program works by weighing the amount of material each home recycles and sets out at the curbside and then converting these weights into RecycleBank Rewards Points to be used at hundreds of local and national rewards partners. Where it is offered, RecycleBank is an easy program to get involved with as well as an effective market-driven program proven to work effectively in many communities nationwide.

Innovative waste industry programs and promotions like RecycleBank have the potential to bring many non-recyclers into the recycling fold. With discounts to name brand and national retailers such as Bed Bath & Beyond, Coca-Cola, CVS/pharmacy, Dunkin’ Donuts, Evian, IKEA, Kraft Foods, Target.com, and Whole Foods and many more. Another alternative to consider during at this time of the year is converting your RecycleBank points into charitable contributions to qualifying organizations. To date, more than 100 million points have been awarded, with families earning on average, between $200 and $300 in retailer rewards annually.

“Our partnership with RecycleBank is another way in which we are continuing our long history of providing innovative solutions to our customers while also being strong stewards of our environment,” said Jay Leyden, Senior Vice President, Customer Development, Allied Waste. “By matching our national reach and state-of-the-art recycling centers with RecycleBank’s creative incentive program, we create an opportunity that can benefit millions of customers, the participating retailers and, ultimately, the environment.”

A shared commitment to creating cleaner, greener communities is the cornerstone of this initiative. Allied Waste processes nearly four billion pounds of recyclable material annually. These outcomes are expected to grow even faster with innovations like RecycleBank. To date, RecycleBank has helped divert more than 80,000,000 pounds of recyclables from landfills and by the end of 2009, Allied Waste and RecycleBank hope to have an additional 1,000,000 new residential customers participating in the program. This could translate into an additional 800,000,000 pounds of recyclable materials being diverted from landfills each year. Future plans include customizing RecycleBank opportunities for the commercial and industrial markets as well. For participants in the RecycleBank program it pays to Recycle More.
