Recycling in the Twin Cities metro

Residents and businesses in the Twin Cities area recycle over 1.2 million tons of waste each year. That's about 38% of the garbage we generate. Impressive numbers? Yes, but we could do better. Approximately 1/3 of what we still throw away could be recycled. In addition, our population is growing and so is the amount of garbage we generate. The truth is, recycling gets more important each year. It's time to rethink recycling in the Twin Cities metro area.

Rethink Recycling was created in 2003 as a collaboration between the recycling and solid waste management efforts in Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey and Washington Counties. Residents of these six counties are encouraged to visit Rethink Recycling for the most up-to-date recycling guidelines for your specific area. A great place to start is their Recycling Guide for Residents, with information on how you can recycle or otherwise properly dispose of a huge variety of materials. The site also provides an extensive directory of municipal recycling contacts, so you know exactly who to call with questions.
